Romeo dan Juliet Film Screening and Exhibition at The Art House
Immerse yourself in a dynamic celebration of Southeast Asian storytelling this autumn as the Moving Parts Collective presents the Romeo dan Juliet Film Screening & Exhibition. Taking place at The Art House by Acrylicize in Tower Hamlets, this multidisciplinary gathering blends cinema, visual art, and live soundscapes to reframe timeless classical drama through a contemporary cultural lens.
A Distinctive Southeast Asian Reimagining
At the heart of the afternoon is a special screening of Romeo dan Juliet, an ambitious production that revitalises the world-famous tragedy of star-crossed lovers. Infused with distinct Southeast Asian narrative traditions, linguistic nuances, and visual motifs, the film offers a fresh and resonant perspective on romance, familial duty, and cultural identity. It provides audiences with a rare opportunity to engage with regional cinema that challenges conventional Western adaptations while honouring the core emotional weight of the classic tale.
A Multidisciplinary Showcase by Moving Parts Collective
Beyond the cinematic screening, the event unfolds into a rich showcase curated by the Moving Parts Collective. The Art House will host an accompanying exhibition featuring works from emerging and established Southeast Asian creatives, establishing dialogue across diverse artistic mediums:
- Visual Artworks: Curated prints, photography, and mixed-media installations that echo the themes of romance, migration, and heritage explored in the film.
- Sonic Performances: Live musical sets and ambient soundscapes designed to complement the visual displays and enhance the gallery atmosphere.
- Creative Dialogues: Opportunities to interact with contributing artists, filmmakers, and members of the collective to discuss the creative processes behind the exhibition.
